Julie Evans Counselling
About me +
my approach

I’m Julie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#3101) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, offering individual therapy to youth 16+ and adults who want to engage deeply and with more ease through the often painful ups and downs of life, while building deeper connection and wholeness within themselves.

I have over 25 years of therapy experience, many spent working in community mental health, education and private practice settings. I've also provided clinical supervision to a number of graduate students.

I've worked with a variety of struggles, including trauma and early life experiences, mood and depression, fear and anxiety, stress and overwhelm, interpersonal relationships, neurodiversity including autism/ADHD, queer and gender identities, life transitions throughout development, aging/peri-menopause/menopause support, chronic pain, grief and loss, therapy for therapists, and helping parents and individuals navigate a new or suspected autism/PDA diagnosis within their family.
In addition to my work, I am the parent of two older adolescent kids and have been in partnership for 20 years, roles which continue to shape me through many trials of fire but also profound growth and healing. I am the proud mama of a neurodiverse child, and this learning continues to influence and guide some of my work. In my spare time, I love listening to podcasts, reading books, journaling, keeping a daily movement and meditation practice (attempting!) and connecting with forest, water and mountain bodies.
Approach
I take a relational, embodied, compassionate, and resourcing approach to therapy, often pulling from the understanding that our bodies, psyches and nature are living sights of knowledge and a doorway to deeper healing and vitality. I strive to help each person feel safe and comfortable, deeply understood, yet stretched to take actions that are in line with their values and goals. Most importantly, I believe in showing up in my role as a full human being still on my own healing journey, and not as an ‘expert’.

Together, I will help you learn new ways of coping, being with and transforming painful experiences or unhelpful patterns of thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviours, while intentionally taking steps towards a rich and fulfilling life.
My practice is primarily based on the approaches of somatic attachment psychotherapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), neuroscience, Polyvagal theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), inner child re-parenting, and depth psychology traditions.
In addition, I am guided by some of my most important values, including being mindful of intersecting systems of privilege and oppression, Eco-feminism, and being LGBTQIA2S+ and neuro-affirming.
